Types of Termites
Termites are in the order of Isoptera. They are insects that break down dead and dying plant material in nature. A protozoan is used in their hindgut to break down cellulose. But, they are destructive pests when feeding on wooden structures.
Termite colony structure consists of three casts: workers, soldiers, and reproductives.
Drywood termites and Subterranean termitesĀ are the destructive two types. Rottenwood and Agricultural termites are of no consequence to structures. iPro Pest Control specializes in Subterranean Termite control, can do spot treatments of Drywood termites. Please call us if either Subterranean or Drywood termites are found during a real estate inspection. iPro can rectify this issue quickly.
Subterranean Termites
Conventional subterranean control involves trenching and drilling to provide a continuous barrier. Bait stations provideĀ non-continuous treatment zones. iPro Pest Control provides both services but recommends homes be treated using conventional controls.
Eastern Subterranean Termite Colony –
The invasive, or non native Formosan Subterranean Termites are very aggressive. They will try to bite a finger that breaks a tunnel open. Formosan Termites are more aggressive and do more damage than the native eastern Subterranean Termites. They do not need contact with the soil if there is enough moisture in the structure’s wood, hence drywood. A Formosan colony that has separated from the soil and deriving moisture from the structure may require structural fumigation.
